Executive Director Update
As we reflect on the past fiscal year, our 25th anniversary fiscal year, we are grateful for the incredible first 25 years of WWIN. FY18 could not have been successful without the support and dedication of all of our donors nor without the drive and determination of the women of WWIN. It is a pleasure to share with you their success.
This past year WWIN’s programs positively impacted the lives of 327 women, of which 169 received new education or health care grants.
The impact of a WWIN Education grant has been notable this year with 24 women graduating, giving them the ability to enter into careers that will provide economic stability. Some of the degrees that were earned include Elementary Education, Nursing, Diagnostic Ultrasound, Construction Management, Community Health, Political Science and Entrepreneurship, Psychology, Humanities and Chemistry. The impact of this opportunity can be seen clearly for women like Azadeh, who graduated from Bellevue College with her Diagnostic Ultrasound degree and is beginning a bachelors level program in radiology at Bellevue College this fall, in addition to finding work as an ultrasound technician. She shared “I am honored to be one of WWIN’s Star Scholars. Thanks to your generous support I am the first in my family to attend college. My educational pursuits would not have been possible without the generous support from sponsors like you. Thank you for enabling this opportunity!”
We are equally grateful to have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of women seeking critical yet unmet health care services. This year we provided 39 women the opportunity to access vital services. Ashley, who received dental services with her health care grant, said, “To say the process was incredibly easy, encouraging, and uplifting is just the beginning to how amazing WWIN is. They not only gave me the opportunity to have my health back, but they also gave me something I have lost for so long, and that is Hope and Faith. It’s because of WWIN that my daughter and I will have a healthy future. I am beyond grateful, and now inspired to go back to school and finish my degree and because WWIN helped me with my medical I can focus on my future.”
Looking in to the future of WWIN for the next 25 years, we consider the important role of women in our society. Over the coming months, we are embarking on a strategic planning initiative to better understand how the landscape has changed for women and what is most important for WWIN to focus on as we lift up women in Washington over the next 25 years. This is an exciting time for WWIN and we look forward to sharing what we learn and how this might inform a potential new mission and vision for WWIN. Thank you so much for your continued support!
