WWIN is excited to announce that we have awarded over 6,000 grants since we were founded by Julia Pritt in 1992!
Our beginnings:
Julia Love Pritt founded WWIN in 1992 in honor of her mother. She knew that with the right resources, women had the power to improve their lives, the lives of their families, and ultimately the futures of their communities for generations to come. She had particular interest in helping low-income women access higher education and critical health care services. As Julia said, this was, “…a community response to a community problem.” Thus WWIN’s education and health care grant programs were born.
Look how far we’ve come:
In 1993, after just 18 months of operation, WWIN had provided funding to more than 350 low-income women from across the state of Washington. The need was great: Over 80% of these women had an income level that was less than $9,500 – and most were single or divorced and had children under the age of 18.
Over the years, our grant programs evolved, but we never forgot about Julia’s vision. We believe that each and every one of our grantees is a woman whom Julia would be proud to support: women who are driven, determined, and already on the path to achieving their goals.
The work continues!
WWIN is planning to make 175 new grants to deserving women in 2016! Want to be a part of helping us reach the next milestone? Come to our annual “Women of Courage” Spring Benefit Luncheon on Tuesday, March 22! 100% of Luncheon donations will be used to make grants to amazing women in our community.
