Star Scholarship applications are now open!

WWIN is now accepting applications for our Star Scholarship program for the 2022-23 academic year, beginning with the Fall 2022 term. Each Star Scholar is awarded up to $5,000 each academic year toward the total Cost of Attendance at an approved college or university in Washington State. Scholarships may be renewed each year up to $20,000 total over the course of an eligible Star Scholar’s undergraduate education.

We anticipate selecting approximately 65 to 70 new Star Scholars during this year’s application cycle. They will join 112 current Star Scholars who are expected to renew for the coming year, for a total of nearly 200 Star Scholars receiving support from WWIN in academic year 2022-23.

WWIN Star Scholars are driven, determined, and have a deep desire to build a better future for themselves and their families through higher education. Among this year’s Star Scholars:

  • 60% are women of color
  • Their average age is 26, with a range from 18 to 56
  • Their average income is $38,706 for an average family size of 3
  • 28% are mothers, and 58% of these are single mothers
  • 60% are the first in their family to attend college or university

Star Scholars are selected by a competitive review process focused on alignment with WWIN’s vision, mission, and values. Learn more about Scholarship eligibility and the selection process here.

Please help us spread the word to a woman you know who is pursuing her higher education and may be eligible for a WWIN Star Scholarship – or consider applying yourself! Applications will be accepted through April 9, 2022, 11:59pm Pacific Time.

Save the date for March 2022’s Inspiring Women: Transformation campaign!

We are excited to invite you to be part of our Inspiring Women campaign in March 2022 to celebrate and support the women of WWIN. This year, we are showcasing stories of transformation, featuring three Star Scholars – Alondra, Susan, and Christina-Marie. Each story is different, yet all three demonstrate the remarkable courage, tenacity, and hope that define WWIN’s Star Scholars as they transform their lives.

Mark your calendar for March 7th to 11th, 2022 for our week-long Inspiring Women: Transformation video series. We hope you’ll also consider becoming an Inspiring Women Champion and hosting your own personal fundraising webpage with a goal to raise $5,000 for WWIN women. Register to become a Champion by Feb 21st here.

Thank you for helping women in Washington achieve their dreams!

Thank you, Cindy and Garth, for sponsoring two Star Scholars!

For Cindy and Garth, the decision to sponsor a WWIN Star Scholar reflects deeply held values: the life-changing impact of higher education and the importance of empowering women. Cindy says, “WWIN’s mission is so powerful because they help women get a leg up to support themselves with dignity and self-respect.”

Cindy is drawn to WWIN’s holistic support for each woman’s education, including career coaching for essential skills like interviewing, job searching, and networking. She has seen firsthand how these skills can transform a woman’s career. Cindy recalls, “As a Human Resources leader, I noticed a lag in women getting next-level jobs and promotions at my company. I spearheaded a program to help them improve their interviewing skills, and I was gratified to see a real increase in women being promoted. In addition to scholarship support, WWIN’s programs like career coaching are massively important in helping women build their confidence and navigate a challenging world.”

As a volunteer Star Scholarship application reviewer, Cindy is moved by the strength and determination of the women of WWIN. She shares, “It’s humbling – almost miraculous – to hear the stories of women who have overcome such serious challenges and circumstances. A woman’s ability to see a different path for her life and push toward it is so inspiring. I put more stock in someone who has taken the tough road and succeeded.”For those considering a gift to support women’s education, Cindy recommends that they consider WWIN. “The Star Scholarship program is ideal. Giving to a college or your alma mater might mean helping someone with scholarship money, but there’s a whole lot more that goes into someone’s success, and the WWIN program provides that support in spades.”

Thank you, Cindy and Garth, for your steadfast support of the women of WWIN. We are grateful for all you do.
