Welcome new Star Scholars! Highlights from this year’s incoming cohort
We are delighted to share that we have selected 64 new Star Scholars so far for the 2021-22 academic year. There are still more eligible applicants we would love to support! We may be able to select six to eight additional Scholars, and our Programs team is busy conducting final phone interviews and financial need calculations for applicants as we receive their official Financial Aid Award Letters. Our new Scholars will join 122 current Star Scholars who have been renewed from last year, totaling nearly 200 Scholars whom WWIN will support for the upcoming academic year.
All of our Star Scholars have shown extraordinary courage, tenacity, and strength as they’ve worked to create a better future for themselves and their families. With support from WWIN, they are ready to complete their higher education and achieve stable, fulfilling careers.

Here are just a few highlights about our incoming Scholars:
- Their average age is 26, ranging from 18 to 47
- 53% are the sole or primary provider for their household
- 33% are mothers, and 67% of these women are single mothers
- 50 Scholars are pursuing a Bachelor’s degree and 14 are seeking an Associate’s degree
- They are pursuing a wide variety of majors, including Biology, Business Administration, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Nursing, Psychology, and more
Each Star Scholar receives up to $5,000 per academic year and up to $20,000 over her undergraduate college career at the approved Washington college or university of her choice. This year’s incoming Scholars will be attending 26 different colleges and universities across the state of Washington. Through Star Scholarships and other supportive programs, WWIN has awarded more than 7,000 grants totaling more than $20 million to women in Washington since 1992.

When a woman sees what’s possible, she aims high. With the right support, she reaches her full potential; and when she succeeds, she lifts her family, her community, and countless others who are inspired by her example.
