What one more application leads to.
For better or worse, the college application process has many hurdles to jump through and most of our Scholars experience this process alone. That was the case for Star Scholar, Jen. As a single mom applying to a nursing program to get her Bachelor’s degree, she needed to figure out how to finance her education. Her parents would help with childcare, but tuition was going to be a challenge.
Experiencing an additional application—even for scholarship opportunities—completely overwhelmed her. Being a single mom often felt like she was doing everything on her own, but the moment she changed her mindset and applied for a WWIN scholarship things turned around. To her surprise, once she submitted her scholarship application everything fell into place. Jen adds, “everyone at WWIN was really on top of it and they were so encouraging. They made the process of figuring out tuition payments so easy.”
Jen is grateful that she was able to complete her nursing program and start a career that’s bringing economic stability to her and her daughter.
I just want to thank the donors. I felt super lost, and this helped bridge the gap to help me get from point A to point B.
Annual Report: Fiscal Year 2020
Fiscal year 2020 was off to a strong start with new coaching and resiliency programs, record-breaking funding, and a strong lineup of events. Then the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
We are continually in awe of the resilience our Star Scholars demonstrate after the enormous challenges of the pandemic—being forced to move out of student housing, being laid off from their service jobs, putting job searches on hold, and pivoting to online coursework while managing their kids’ distance learning.
In fiscal year 2020 alone, we are proud to see that,
- 41 Star Scholars graduated in Summer 2020 with an average GPA of 3.72.
- We awarded 295 grants and scholarships totaling nearly $1 million.
- 84 percent of Scholars are pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with 31 percent in a STEM major.
Thanks to the generosity from our donors, WWIN was able to quickly pivot during the pandemic to continue to support our Scholars with Resiliency Fund grants. We will continue to be there for our Scholars in any way we can.
Activate yourself and see what’s possible
On November 11, Clem LeFrades took the stage at the first Activate You Workshop—Empowering Techniques for Self-Care. She shared the four practical techniques to release stress and anxiety, create emotional wellness, experience inner peace and tap into divine power.
We were inspired to see so many women gather and feel empowered together. We hope that the support you received for your mental and physical health during these times ripples out into your daily life. Most importantly, we hope you can reignite a relationship with yourself!
Join us again next month! Tori Dunlap, millennial money speaker and coach, is providing all the details on Navigating the Salary Negotiation on December 9 at 4 p.m. PST.
Because of that extra lending hand of help, I continue to stay strong and filled with hope. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
